- 5 Weeks From 14th September 2026

The political upheavals of the years 1912 to 1922 set the political foundations of modern Ireland. Military mutiny, formation of paramilitaries, civil unrest, a crushed uprising – against the background of the Great War – were followed by guerilla warfare in the War of Independence, civil war, and partition. These turbulent years shaped the Ireland of today, and are key to understanding the political nature of the island, north and south. The course will examine these years and their significance for understanding contemporary Ireland.
