Opera is an all-encompassing theatrical entertainment which can include words, a story, singers, dancers, actors, an orchestra, a stage, costumes, social and political comment, and scenery. A veritable feast! In a good production the audience can be captivated by the action and drawn into the emotional roller coaster of the narrative. We shall explore a variety of operatic works from the beginnings in the late 16th century to the present day.
