Recorded at modest cost in just three days in early 1971, Carole King’s album ‘Tapestry’ not only launched her as one of America’s foremost singer-songwriters, its eventual worldwide sales of 25 million eclipsed even those achieved by any of the Beatles’ LPs. Yet she was no stranger to the record charts as a composer, having created scores of major hit songs with her lyric writing husband Gerry Goffin since their meeting as students a dozen years earlier.
In this workshop we'll explore how those early years laid the ground for her performing career, the sometimes surprising influences that shaped her music, and the particular qualities that made ‘Tapestry’ and its homespun songs so engaging, so resonant and so enduring in appeal.
