Announcement Creative Workshops this November - now open to book!

Art and Craft

Keeping Lace Alive: a workshop

Bobbin lacemaking is a traditional Bedford craft going back to the 1530's. The tradition is continued by a group of lacemakers locally who have the aim of Keeping the Craft Alive. Lace is a form of weaving using thread wound on bobbins and worked on a pillow with stitches held in place with pins. It is actually easier than it looks to make lace as there are only two stitches to learn.

We start teaching making bookmarks and keyrings to get used to the basics. The lace world then opens up with endless possibilities. Come and learn about the history of lace making in Bedford and then have a go and see what you think.  It's a very mindful, relaxing craft that quickly becomes addictive.

All levels are welcome whether you are a complete beginner or have laced before and would like to work again in a group. All materials provided. The only thing you need to bring is your reading glasses!
