Taking a broad historic and contemporary approach to the topic of the ‘wilder’ aesthetic in gardens and landscapes and its contemporary resonance with environmental and ecological concerns.
We will explore literary and landscape ideals of the 18th century and the movement for the 19th century ‘Wild Garden’ and the 20th century cottage garden movement, before plunging into the impact of ‘Silent Spring’ and 21st century environmental concerns and climate change on the garden and landscape, conflicts in heritage and changing regulation.
This short course runs over two consecutive days Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st of July
