Take a stroll through nearly any park or garden and you will come face to face (or face to knee!)- with a statue! Whether crisp white stone or grey lead, or sadly green. But why are they there and what do they signify? Are they merely decorative or are they trying to tell you something? This day school will help you de-code the messages held in garden statuary from religion to war, politics to pastoralism. Eschewing the monumental figures of public open spaces, we will delve instead into the once-private domains of the country house garden and park and delight in distinguishing our attributes from our Aphrodites!
