This five week summer course offers an accessible introduction to Bedfordshire’s birdlife, focusing in particular on trends since 1990 and drawing on material from The Birds of Bedfordshire (2025) written by tutor, Tony Ploszajski. Each session explores a different theme, beginning with the county’s habitats and how they have changed over time, followed by the impact of climate and climate change on local species.
We will look closely at selected birds, examine wider patterns of change across the county, and consider the data sources that help us understand bird populations today and predict future trends. Content will remain flexible, and at the first session participants will be invited to share their own bird related interests so that later weeks can be tailored to the group.
