To what extent can Psychology offer wisdom and insight applicable to our everyday lives in an ever-changing world? We will address this question by exploring five enduring debates in Psychology – freewill versus determinism; nature versus nurture; individual versus situational explanations of human behaviour. Can we investigate behaviour ethically within the socially sensitive context of human experience and what about reductionism and holism? Does any of this matter, and if so, why? No prior knowledge of Psychology is required but all insights are welcome as we explore together this ever-evolving discipline through the prism of research examples and our own lived experience. This is a repeat of a course from the Autumn Term.
