Four peoples, the Kurds, the Uighurs, the Tuareg and the Tamils, from different parts of the world, have long believed that as distinct peoples, with distinctive histories, cultures and languages, they have a right to statehood, a flag and a place to call their own. This right, they maintain, is wrongfully denied them by malevolent agents. What is their case, and why is it likely to go unheeded?
