Join new tutor Bob for a relaxed, creative workshop exploring the beauty and practicality of natural crafts. Bob will share a little about his own journey into working with natural materials, along with a look at some of the projects that first sparked his passion for this craft.
From there, we’ll dive straight into the first hands on activity: learning how to process and create rope using stinging nettles. It’s a wonderfully grounding skill that connects us directly with the landscape around us, and everyone will have the chance to get involved. Once you’ve mastered the basics of nettle cordage, we’ll move on to working with willow. We’ll start with simple yet beautiful willow stars—perfect for getting a feel for the material—and, if time and energy allow, we’ll progress to crafting delicate willow flowers. You will be able to take home the stars and the flowers.
This session is designed to be welcoming and inspiring, whether you’re completely new to natural crafts or already have a love for working with the materials nature provides. “Bushcraft”Bob Collins is a qualified paddlesport instructor with years of experience on the water in the local Bedford area. He is a master of carving, weaving and bushcraft skills creating masterpieces and sharing a passion for the outdoors and nature.
