“To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event.” [Henri Cartier-Bresson].In the world of art and communication through photography, there are a finite number of images recorded – from the invention of the art to the present day, that have become embedded in our collective consciousness and defined world history. This course will introduce a wide selection of iconic images and the photographers from the ‘dawn of popular’ photography to the closure of the 20th Century. Indeed, the majority of images presented have the power to trigger a wide range of emotions – from happiness through to anger, for those who have lived the period and recollect the events .To fully appreciate and understand the images presented, a ‘crash course’ in photography composition and communication techniques or skills will also be included.
