Join us for a VE Day Celebration. (Previously titled ‘Home Front During World War Two’)
Victory over Europe Day was the culmination of hopes and dreams, of joy and celebration. How did events unfold which led to this famous day in history? May 8th 1945 marked the beginning of recovery and recuperation after years of war affected living but did it mean the same for everyone and how much of the home front lifestyle immediately changed with victory over Nazism? Once the the partying subsided how quickly did a life of peacetime normality resume? This workshop explores life in the days before and after May 8th 1945, as well as recalling events on the historic day itself.
Event will include a 60minute lecture on ‘VE Day; Before, During and After’, a nostalgia-themed buffet lunch prepared by Jason and entrance to the Rothsay Replica Museum, where Alan will informally guide members through various replica items from the time. If you have any WWII artefacts to share with us, please feel free to bring them in on the day!
