It was Paul Delaroche who said, “From today, painting is dead!”, after viewing examples of the Daguerreotype images in 1839. In this part of the course we shall cover: the invention or ‘dawn’ of photography, different equipment and processes, through to its acceptance as a legitimate artist media. A number of influential Victorian photographers and their work will be introduced, including; Roger Fenton, Julia Margaret Cameron, Henry Peach Robinson, Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, Peter Henry Emerson and others.
