This concise 4-week course will delve into the works of Mexican artists Rivera and Kahlo. When photographed together, they presented a striking contrast: his robust figure towering over her petite frame. Upon their marriage, her parents affectionately nicknamed them ‘the elephant’ and ‘the dove’.
Art historians often rely on familiar anecdotes to narrate the complex relationship between Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, such as his early Cubist career in Paris during the 1910s and her childhood battle with polio. However, to truly grasp the depth of the passions, resentments, adoration, and pain that characterised their intense entanglement, one must study their paintings.
