There have been many artists who, during their lifetimes, were regarded as important and famous, some even infamous. As the years have elapsed, they have literally been written out of the art history books. One such artist was Dame Ethel Walker, only the second female artist to be ennobled for their profession – yet she has almost been ignored. We will look at several such artists to study their careers and lives and rediscover their work lurking in store cupboards.
