This 5- week course with local historian Bob, explores how changing faiths have shaped Bedford’s development, identity, and community life from the early medieval period to the present day. We will look at the town’s pre Norman Conquest churches and abbey, its medieval reputation as ‘the town of churches’, the influence of its three monasteries, the impact of the Reformation, the rise of Baptist, Moravian, Methodist, and Salvation Army communities, and the growth of Bedford’s Jewish, Caribbean Pentecostal, Hindu, and Sikh groups.
Together, we’ll trace how each tradition has contributed to the Bedford we know today.
