This follow-on course is suitable for those who have done a beginner’s course or have some experience of drawing. The topics will include movement, people, light and shade, natural textures and composition. Demonstrations and examples will introduce each topic and individual help will happily be given.
Basic Materials for Drawing
Very little is needed to get started but the following will be useful:
- An A4 or larger pad of medium grain cartridge paper. This is sold in various weights, 130 gsm (grams per square metre) will be fine. 200 gsm would be more robust. The pads of paper come with a stiff cardboard back; this is usually sufficiently supportive.
- A few pencils of varying hardness will make it easy to make lighter or darker marks. I suggest an HB, B, 4B or the even softer 6B.
- A pen that flows easily. A drawing pen, no smaller than 0.5 size, will make a more even mark than a biro.
- A rubber eraser. This can be cut into 2 pieces, one larger and one quite small.
- A 1ft ruler to help draw the edges of each picture the right size.
