For over four centuries the concerto has evolved as a composition in which a soloist of group of soloists display their capabilities, and that of their instrument, in a duologue with an orchestra. They give the soloist a chance to dazzle their audience with their virtuosity and explore a wide emotional range.
We shall investigate a broad variety of concertos from Bach to the 21st century and will hope to touch on the concerto repertoire proposed for the Philharmonia’s 2026-7 concert season in Bedford.
