The Details
Bletchley Park an English country house and estate in Bletchley, Milton Keynes became the principal centre of Allied code-breaking during the Second World War. The mansion was constructed during the years following 1883 for the financier and politician Sir Herbert Leon in the Victorian Gothic, Tudor, and Dutch Baroque styles, on the site of older buildings of the same name. Bletchley Park was where Alan Turing and other agents of the Ultra intelligence project decoded the enemy’s secret messages, most notably those that had been encrypted with the German Enigma and Tunny cipher machines.
The nature of the work at Bletchley remained secret until many years after the war but it is now open to the public, featuring interpretive exhibits and huts that have been rebuilt to appear as they did during their wartime operations. It receives hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, has on offer a range of permanent and temporary exhibitions and lots to visit on the grounds such as the Mansion, the Huts and the Museum. If you do not know Bletchley Park well, please do have a look at their website https://bletchleypark.org.uk/ . Even if you have visited before, it is well worth booking on to this trip to visit again! We will have the additional extra of a guided tour and interactive learning workshop.
The interactive learning session will include an Enigma machine demonstration and will develop your knowledge and understanding of WW2 events and the role of Bletchley Park in the D-Day landings. I would also like to add that Bletchley Park has just been shortlisted for the Museums + Heritage Awards 2025 for Learning Programme of the Year. The global awards celebrate the very best in the world of museums, galleries and cultural and heritage visitor attractions!
You will also have the opportunity to experience the exciting new temporary exhibition ‘The Age of AI ‘and discover how artificial intelligence is a part of our lives today and how AI could affect our future. With its historic links to computing and people connected to AI, as well as being the venue of the world’s first AI Safety Summit, hosted by the UK Government, Bletchley Park is uniquely placed to hold this exhibition.
There are a range of food and drink options available in the coffee shop and cafe. Bletchley Park serves freshly cooked hot meals, snacks, cakes and a range of hot and cold drinks, as well as seasonal treats. Visitors are also welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy at one of the outdoor picnic spots.
