Although Morisot has not received the same coverage as her contemporaries such as Monet and her husband Manet, more and more people are becoming aware of her work. This course is an introduction to her paintings and her relation to the Impressionists. Did she bring a uniquely female perspective to the group? Critics talked of its ‘feminine charm’ a description she rejected. She wanted to be judged on her art, not her gender.
