Although Morisot has not received the same coverage as her contemporaries such as Monet and her husband Manet, more and more people are becoming aware of her work. This one day course is an introduction to her paintings and her relation to the Impressionists. Did she bring a uniquely female perspective to the group? Critics talked of its ‘feminine charm’ a description she rejected, declaring: ‘I don’t think there has ever been a man who treated a woman as an equal and that’s all I would have asked for, for I know I’m worth as much as they.’ No argument there.
