The orchestra is one of the great achievements of Western Culture. We will look at ten examples of Orchestral music, placing them in the context of their composer’s output and their place in the development of the orchestra. Each week we will take one major piece from the orchestral repertoire, ranging from Haydn to the present day, and both examine it in details and assess its place in the history of the orchestra.
