Join Mark Steinhardt for his latest Afternoon Tea and Tales – Tristan and Iseult.
This tragic love story was the greatest hit of the High Middle Ages. In a few decades it spread from Iceland to Bohemia, adapting as it travelled to the new literary fashions of chivalry and courtly love. And yet it probably began as a simple Celtic tale, perhaps in Cornwall.
There are Irish and Welsh love stories from the time, but this is the only English survivor. Mark stays as faithful as possible to the original, but tries to close the gap between ancient manner and modern interior life, so that this ancient story can live for us now.
Price includes a cream tea and a hot drink choice. (tea or coffee) Please e-mail the office [email protected] with any dietary requirements or allergies.
Mark is also re-running his earlier story ‘The Scandal of Frank Spooner’ on 14th March due to popular demand!
