This five week course explores the intersection between Rainer Maria Rilke’s poetry and the broader world of of modern art, focusing on his relationship with key figures such as the painter Paul Cezanne. Rilke, one of the most influential poets of the early 20th century, was deeply engaged with the changing cultural and artistic landscapes of the time. His famous Sonnets to Orpheus are contemporaneous with T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land.
Students will need to bring along a copy of the following edition.
