The Brontës :Emily Ross

"What can we really know about the Brontë Sisters? In this 5 week course we will dive headfirst into the lives and experiences of the brilliant Brontës - Charlotte, author of Jane Eyre and Villette, Emily, author of the masterpiece of English literature, Wuthering Heights, Anne, author of Agnes Grey and the Tenant of Wildfell Hall, and their wastrel brother, Branwell. The books will take a bit of a back seat during this examination of the authors' lives, from their humble origins via their parents in Rathfriland and Penzance, to their childhood in Thornton and Haworth, the tragic death of their mother and elder sisters, and how the three grew through these tragedies to write some of literature's finest works, became three of the world's most read female authors, and the role they played in aiding the women's rights movement.
