Economics in the News: Angela Pollard

"The course will be a blend of economic theory and its application to current affairs/economic news. Each session will be divided into two sections. In the first part we will look at a piece of economic theory such as supply and demand. In the second part we will look at news stories which illustrate the theory covered in the first part. However, this term we will focus on ’Britain and the rest of the World’ which will include some discussion of the EU, International Trade and Development. Topics will include the main features of a customs union and the characteristics of the single market as well as some of the pros and cons for the UK of membership of the EU. In international trade and development, we will discuss trade versus aid as a means to stimulate economic development and look at a couple of ‘case study’ countries in more detail."
