The Short Story: Dr Adrian Page

"A short story is a love affair; a novel is a marriage. A short story is a photograph; a novel is a film.’ ― Lorrie Moore. The course will be based on the Penguin Book of Modern British Short Stories edited by Malcolm Bradbury (reissued 2011). This collection both allows us to glimpse the skill of some major literary figures from the recent past and also to see the manner in which they can provide us with a striking event or revelation which endures in our imagination. Writers such as Elizabeth Bowen, Graham Greene, Jean Rhys, William Golding, Muriel Spark, David Lodge, Angela Carter, Rose Tremain, Julian Barnes, Graham Swift and Kazuo Ishiguro are among those we will consider."
